Russian Strike Injures Dozens at Ukrainian Train Station
(MENAFN) At least 30 individuals sustained injuries following an alleged Russian aerial assault aimed at a railway hub and passenger trains located in Shostka, a city in the northeastern region of Sumy, Ukraine, according to local authorities on Saturday.
Ukrainian Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko reported that the incident impacted both the train station and the passenger carriages, labeling it as “a double targeted strike.”
She emphasized that “rescuers, medics, and railway workers are working at the scene -- they are helping the victims and assessing the extent of the damage.”
Svyrydenko blamed the Kremlin for intentionally targeting civilian structures and heavily populated zones.
She warned that “the world has no right to ignore it,” and appealed for an increase in air defense provisions, more stringent economic restrictions against Russia, and bold support from Ukraine’s allies. According to her, “only this can stop Russian terror and save people’s lives.”
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy also strongly denounced the strike, describing it as “a savage Russian drone strike.”
He stated that the Russian military was certainly aware they were attacking non-combatants, calling it a form of terror the international community must address. Zelenskyy noted that “at least 30 people, including Ukrzaliznytsia railway staff and passengers, were among the injured.”
He further appealed to allied nations to transform their “resolute statements” into tangible measures, stressing that “lip service is not enough now -- strong action is needed.”
