Trump Signals Early Diplomatic Momentum on Global Conflicts
While speaking from the Oval Office, Trump responded to questions regarding forthcoming discussions involving US special envoy Steve Witkoff, who is expected to hold talks with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi on Friday.
He pointed to the breadth of global issues currently facing his administration, saying, “You have Iran, and you have Russia, Ukraine, and you have the Middle East. We have a lot of things going,” and noted that many of these disputes existed before he returned to the presidency.
Addressing the situation in Eastern Europe, Trump expressed measured confidence about developments related to Ukraine. He remarked, “I think we’re doing very well with Ukraine and Russia. For the first time, I’m saying that,” and hinted that “maybe” there could be “some good news” ahead.
The president also underscored the human cost of the war, characterizing the fighting as pointless and devastating. “We’re losing — 25,000 people a month are being killed in that war,” Trump said, emphasizing the scale of suffering even though the conflict does not directly affect the United States.
Trump additionally renewed his criticism of former President Joe Biden’s approach to supporting Ukraine, alleging that the prior administration allocated “$350 billion” in aid toward the effort.
