Minister Kajzer in Yerevan on new opportunities for Slovenian companies and ways to strengthen political cooperation

SLOVENIA, October 28 - Economic diplomacy opens doors for Slovenian companies

In Armenia, Minister Kajzer was accompanied by a business delegation comprising representatives of Slovenian companies. This was the first such visit since 2010. “In Slovenia, we export around 80 per cent of everything we produce. This is why our diplomats and the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs play a vital role in opening doors and creating opportunities for our businesses and people,” Minister Kajzer emphasised during his visit, adding: “The Government of the Republic of Slovenia is striving to make the Slovenian business environment more stable, predictable and competitive, which is why economic diplomacy is one of its key priorities.”

The business forum, organised by SPIRIT Slovenia and Enterprise Armenia, was addressed jointly by Ministers Kajzer and Mirzoyan, and brought together representatives of companies from Slovenia and Armenia. The two ministers emphasised the importance of concrete economic projects, new business links and long-term partnerships. In this regard, Minister Kajzer stated that there are many opportunities to strengthen economic cooperation in the fields of pharmaceuticals, energy, tourism, sports infrastructure, information technology and high-tech, as well as in aviation and defence technologies. Armenia is known as the 'flower shop of the region', which means that horticulture and floriculture also offer potential for cooperation.

In his address, Minister Kajzer highlighted the advantages of the Slovenian business environment, including its strategic location at the intersection of Central and South-Eastern Europe, the Alps and the Adriatic; its well-developed transport infrastructure (including the Port of Koper); and its integration into the European single market, the euro area and the Schengen Area.

Strengthening political ties and supporting Armenia’s rapprochement with the EU and regional stability

In addition to economic cooperation, Ministers Kajzer and Mirzoyan discussed bilateral relations and the importance of jointly addressing international challenges. On this occasion, they signed a memorandum of understanding on enhanced political dialogue between the foreign ministries of Slovenia and Armenia, which will form the basis for closer and more regular cooperation.

Minister Kajzer emphasised that, despite their geographical distance, Slovenia and Armenia are linked by a strong national identity, a rich cultural heritage and a shared commitment to knowledge, creativity and entrepreneurship as drivers of development. In this context, he highlighted the importance of pragmatic cooperation in the changed global geopolitical landscape, based on dialogue, mutual trust and respect for international law. He also placed particular emphasis on the importance of security and resilience.

The two ministers went on to discuss bilateral cooperation in education, science and development cooperation. Minister Kajzer welcomed the regular participation of Armenian diplomats in seminars for young diplomats from Eastern Partnership countries, as well as in the Young Bled Strategic Forum. He also expressed his satisfaction with the successful cooperation between the University of Maribor and five Armenian universities.

Minister Mirzoyan thanked Slovenia for implementing psychosocial rehabilitation programmes for children and the parents of missing or deceased children. These projects strengthen bilateral humanitarian cooperation, build local professional capacity and foster long-term psychosocial resilience.

During the discussion on Armenia’s relations with the EU, Minister Kajzer reaffirmed Slovenia’s support for deepening these relations, implementing reforms and strengthening the country’s economic, energy and democratic resilience. He expressed satisfaction with the progress made in the dialogue on visa liberalisation and the outcomes of the first EU–Armenia summit.

Minister Kajzer also reiterated his support for the peace process between Armenia and Azerbaijan, as well as for normalising relations in the region. He emphasised that lasting peace, stability, mutual trust and good neighbourly relations are key to regional security, better connectivity and economic prosperity.

“I am confident that today’s visit will give new impetus to our relations, strengthen political dialogue and create new opportunities for cooperation between our two countries, our businesses and our people,” concluded Minister Kajzer.

During his visit to Yerevan, Minister Kajzer will meet with Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, Speaker of Parliament Ruben Rubinyan and Secretary-General of the Security Council of Armenia Alen Simonyan. He will also pay a visit to the Tsitsernakaberd Memorial Complex.

Slovenia at the 17th meeting of the Conference of the Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity

While in Yerevan, Minister Kajzer attended the 17th meeting of the Conference of the Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity, where he delivered a national statement on behalf of Slovenia.

In his address, he stated that the commitments set out in the Global Biodiversity Framework must be translated into concrete measures and implemented more quickly if we are to achieve the 2030 targets. He also emphasised the importance of integrating water protection, climate resilience and biodiversity conservation, as well as securing sufficient funding from all sources and ensuring the right to a clean, healthy and sustainable environment. He presented Slovenia’s experience with the use of nature-based solutions –simultaneously restoring ecosystems and improving flood safety – as an example of good practice.

Slovenia is committed to effectively implementing the global goals and believes that shared commitments will deliver tangible results for nature, the climate and people.
